Recall Issued For Cantaloupe Sold In Texas Due To Salmonella Concerns

Cantaloupe Recall: Health Concerns in Texas

Salmonella Contamination Prompts Recall

A recall has been issued for cantaloupe sold in Texas due to concerns about salmonella contamination. The recall was issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) after several people became ill after eating cantaloupe from the same source. The cantaloupe was sold at several grocery stores in Texas, including H-E-B, Kroger, and Walmart.

Symptoms of Salmonella Infection

Symptoms of a salmonella infection can include diarrhea, vomiting, fever, and abdominal cramps. In severe cases, salmonella can lead to hospitalization or even death. Young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems are at an increased risk of developing severe symptoms.

What to Do if You Have Purchased Cantaloupe

If you have purchased cantaloupe from any of the recalled stores, you should not eat it. The cantaloupe should be discarded immediately. You should also contact your doctor if you have eaten any of the recalled cantaloupe and are experiencing any symptoms of a salmonella infection.

How to Prevent Salmonella Infection

There are several things you can do to prevent a salmonella infection, including:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before and after handling food.
  • Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before eating them.
  • Cook poultry and eggs to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Avoid eating raw or undercooked meat, poultry, or eggs.
